Sun, Heat and Overall Health

The Summer Solstice just passed us, so we are definitely into sumer. That means that hottest days and the most direct sunlight are between now and Labour Day. With the increased sun and heat, you need to take precaution when exercising outdoors.

Here are a few helpful sun and heat facts gathered from a variety of sources.
  • You can get sun poisoning at the beach in as little as 30 minutes--causing chills, nausea and swelling. Keep yourself covered!
  • Fatty fish such as salmon or sea bass can help prevent searing of the skin if eaten twice a week over time.
  • Baked beans, a picnic favorite, has been found to be the perfect combination of protein, carbs and sodium to help retain fluids better than Gatorade.
  • When you are jogging, sweating in the hot sun, weigh yourself before and after exercise. 1 pint of sweat = 1 pound lost. Aim to replace only the fluids you have lost.
With the hottest weeks and months coming, remember to exercise outside before noon if possible. If it is just too hot or the air quality is too poor, remember: BodyByGeoff does not take a break all summer!
  • Our full studio-level classes operate all summer
  • Free cardio to any of our training clients
  • Training appointments start at 5:30am Monday-Friday and 7am on Saturday!
