Skin Care: Rosacea

Usually Rosacea occurs between the ages of 30 and 60. The condition affects both sexes, but women are significantly more at risk. The most common complaint is unexplained flushing or redness of the cheeks, nose, neck, and eventually, broken capillaries around the nose and cheeks.

If you're suffering from Rosacea, you should know that you can avoid "flare ups" by taking a few precautions. We've put together a few tips that can help make your condition more manageable.

Use Gentle, Fragrance-Free Cleansers

Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen!Getting sunburned greatly increases your chance for a Rosacea flare up.

Avoid Temperature ExtremesAnyone who suffers from this skin disorder will tell you heat causes Rosacea flare ups. That's why symptoms are usually worse during the winter (when the heat is cranked up in most homes and offices), or in the summer on a blazing hot day. If you can, try to keep your heat registered at a temperature that is as low as you can comfortably handle.

Avoid Certain Food & Drink Alcohol, and red wine in particular, causes the skin to flush. Spicy food, fruits with a lot of antioxidants and caffeine can cause flare-ups

Avoid Certain Skin Treatments such as chemical peels and acne treatments that contains benzoyl peroxide should be avoided.

Dr. Robert Bunn, at BodyByGeoff Skin Care can provide a Photofacial for Rosacea. This light-based therapy can significantly reduce the redness caused during a Rosacea outbreak. IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy works by pentrating the skin at the epidermis layer, reaching the capillaries and causing them to become damaged and naturally absorbed by the body.

Skin Care Clinic: Changes that Come with Age

Age spots or liver spots are brown blemishes usually associated with the aging process and extreme exposure to sunlight. Age spots are flat, unlike moles, and range in color from light brown to black. You can generally find these spots on the areas of your skin most exposed to the sun, such as on your arms, face, shoulders, and forehead. Age spots on the hands are extremely common.

Age spots are caused by a lifetime of sun damage. Pass the age of 40, your skin simply becomes less able to cope with and regenerate from sun damage. Some correlation between stress levels has also been found. Instead of healing naturally, age spots develop excessive pigmentation in the skin.

Telangietasias, better known as Spider Veins, are tiny blood vessels near the skin's surface, usually only a few millimeters long. Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, only smaller and closer to your top layer of skin. They tend to be red or blue in color and are often shaped like a jagged tree branches or a spider's web, thus the name. And just like varicose veins, spider veins serve no function, so there is no problem with spider vein removal.

Spider veins are most common on the nose, cheeks, and chin, but can also form on legs, mostly around the upper thigh, knee joint, and ankle. Spider veins occur because of poor blood circulation. Blood leaks back into the veins and pools there. Spider veins can also be caused by hormone changes, hereditary factors, sun damage, and rosacea.

Both Age Spots and Spider Veins can be effectively treated with IPL Photofacialtechnique at BodyByGeoff Skin Care, with Dr. Robert Bunn in 2-4 visits.

Problem skin can refer to any number of symptoms including redness, oily or dry, flaky skin, blackheads, whiteheads, or even a dull luster.

No matter what you problem is one thing that all bad skin has in common is stress. Exercise is a healthy and routine way to get rid of stress.

But, you may need help with fixing problem skin and feeling like you our taking care of your whole body.

There are new, advanced ways to treat the face without harmful chemicals or taking medications--Laser PhotoFacials.

IPL (Intermittent Pulse Lasers) Photofacial treatments utilize the latest advances in laser technology to help treat everything from sun damaged skin to rosacea, age spots, premature wrinkles, pigment problems, and large pores on the face, neck, and chest. Photofacial (aka fotofacial or photo facial) treatments center around the patented Florescent Pulsed Light system, which penetrates deep below the skin's surface to help start the production of new collagen and other connective tissues. This process leaves the skin rejuvenated and smooth, starting from the very first treatment.

The typical IPL Photofacial treatment lasts about 30 minutes, and they are typically scheduled across three week intervals.

Skin Care Knowledge Clinic--Am I a candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

In the laser hair removal community, skin types are often discussed in terms of the "Fitzpatrick Chart," a classification system based on the skin's response to sun exposure. It's helpful to know what type you are, and compare it to your hair type, in order to determine how effective laser hair removal will be for you. But keep in mind that there are exceptions to every rule, and the only proven way to determine your candidacy is through a personal consultation with Dr. Bunn.
